Logan Allen News
Pitcher Logan Allen was optioned by the Cleveland Guardians Tuesday in a series of moves that also saw the team bring up pitcher Anthony Gose while designating pitcher Xzavion Curry for assignment. Allen was 8-4 but had an ERA of 5.56 and a WHIP of 1.56 over 92 1/3 innings over 19 appearances. Gose, a former outfield prospect of the Toronto Blue Jays, has not appeared in the majors since 2022. He was 5-4 with a 3.29 ERA and 1.304 WHIP in 35 appearances in Triple-A Columbus, recording 10 saves. Curry was 0-2 with a 5.84 ERA and 1.378 WHIP in seven games (four starts) with the Guardians. Neither of the moves offers much fantasy impact.

Logan Allen Called Up To Start Against Diamondbacks
The Cleveland Guardians recalled left-hander Logan Allen from Triple-A Columbus on Monday and optioned right-hander Connor Gillispie to Columbus in a corresponding move. It will be Allen's first start in the big leagues since July 6 with the Guardians still needing some starting rotation help with Tanner Bibee dealing with a shoulder injury. The 25-year-old Allen went 8-4 with a 5.67 ERA (5.45 FIP) and 1.55 WHIP with 76 strikeouts and 35 walks in 87 1/3 innings over 18 starts earlier this year before he was sent to the minors. In three starts for Columbus, Allen was better with a 3.86 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 12:7 K:BB in 16 1/3 innings pitched. The D-backs are sitting notable left-handed hitters Corbin Carroll and Joc Pederson on Monday, but fantasy managers should still consider Allen to be a pretty shaky streaming option in deeper leagues in his return to Cleveland's rotation.

Logan Allen Optioned To Triple-A, Spencer Howard Promoted
Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Logan Allen has been optioned to Triple-A Columbus, according to Mandy Bell of MLB.com. Since May 24, Allen has struggled with a poor 6.75 ERA, 1.69 WHIP, and 19:33 BB:K ratio across his previous 36 frames. In a corresponding move, the Guardians promoted 27-;27-year-old right-hander Spencer Howard to the major league roster. Howard was traded to the Guardians for cash considerations from the Giants on July 5. Howard posted a 5.63 ERA, and 1.83 WHIP in 24 innings in the majors this season and could make occasional starts throughout the second half of the summer but should be left on the waiver wire in all formats.

Logan Allen Roughed Up In Loss
Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Logan Allen lasted just an 1 2/3 innings in Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Rockies. The lefty allowed seven earned runs on six hits and two walks in the abbreviated outing while striking out just one batter. The former second-round pick has seven starts where he has allowed three earned runs or less, but has five starts in which he's allowed four runs or more. So despite the 6-3 record, the southpaw has a bloated 5.83 ERA (5.22 FIP), 1.55 WHIP, .301 opponent's average, and a league-leading 12 home runs allowed. Allen's next start lines up with the Royals at home next week, a team that has the fourth-best batting average against lefties this season, so it might be best to stay away for fantasy purposes.

Logan Allen Strikes Out Five In Loss To Houston On Thursday
Cleveland Guardians left-hander Logan Allen took the loss in an 8-2 defeat at the hands of the Houston Astros on Thursday. Allen allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings while striking out five and walking one as his record fell to 3-2 on the year. Most of the damage came via a two-run homer off the bat of Jon Singleton in the sixth inning. It has been a slow start to the season for the lefty as Allen now has a 5.11 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP across 37 innings of work. That being said, Thursday's start against the Astros provides a slight glimmer of hope for the southpaw who broke out as a rookie in 2023. He will look to keep it going in his next start, which is slated to come on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers at home.

Logan Allen Looking For Improved Results Friday
Cleveland Guardians left-hander Logan Allen will be in search of some improved results on Thursday when he takes on the hosting Atlanta Braves. The 25-year-old owns a 5.06 ERA through five starts on the season, allowing at least three earned runs while pitching fewer than six innings in four of his five outings. Aside from six shutout innings over the Mariners on April 3, Allen has otherwise yielded 15 earned runs across 20 2/3 innings of work. There is a chance for positive regression moving forward considering Allen's 4.23 xFIP and 4.31 SIERA on the season, figures well below his surface ERA. Of course, he'll have his hands full against a Braves lineup that ranks first in baseball with a .363 wOBA on the season.

Logan Allen Blanks Seattle For Second Win
Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Logan Allen blanked the Seattle Mariners in Wednesday's 8-0 blowout victory, spinning 6 2/3 scoreless innings on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts and tallying a win. Allen is now 2-0 on the infant season, scattering three singles and a double in what was one of the most impressive starts of his young career. The 25-year-old left-hander is battling with veteran Carlos Carrasco to maintain a spot in Cleveland's rotation after Gavin Williams (elbow) returns from right elbow inflammation, but Allen is starting to pull away in the competition via a 2.31 ERA and 1.11 WHIP while fanning nine covering his first 11 2/3 frames of the year. He'll have a great chance to build on his early-2024 success in his next scheduled start next Tuesday, when the Guardians host the division-rival Chicago White Sox.

Logan Allen Enduring Rough Spring
Cleveland Guardians left-hander Logan Allen is enduring a rough spring as he looks to build upon what was a strong debut in the 2023 season. The 25-year-old was rocked for six earned runs on eight hits, including a pair of homers, and two walks against three strikeouts in his final spring tune-up against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, elevating his spring ERA to 5.50 across five starts and 18 innings of work. However, Allen enjoyed an impressive rookie season that saw him work to a 3.81 ERA across 24 starts in the 2023 season, although his 4.49 SIERA suggests he wasn't quite as effective as his surface ERA might suggest. He has a track record of putting up big strikeout numbers in his minor-league career but he only posted an 18.2% K% this spring, suggesting it may take some time for him to generate consistent punchouts at the big-league level.

Diamondbacks Sign Logan Allen To Minors Deal
The Arizona Diamondbacks signed free-agent left-hander Logan Allen to a minor-league deal on Tuesday. The deal includes an invitation to major-league spring training. Allen didn't surface at all in the big leagues in 2023, instead pitching for the Triple-A affiliates with the Colorado Rockies and Seattle Mariners, where he went 6-2 with a 5.77 ERA, 1.74 WHIP, 56 walks and 99 strikeouts in 103 innings pitched over his 38 appearances (10 starts). The 26-year-old southpaw will be looking to get back in the majors in a relief role in 2024, but he'll most likely start the year at Triple-A Reno. In Allen's four major-league campaigns with the San Diego Padres, Cleveland Guardians and Baltimore Orioles, he's posted a 5.89 ERA (5.62 FIP) and 1.66 WHIP while striking out only 15.5 percent of the batters he faced.

Logan Allen Looking To Tame Divisional Foe Tuesday
Cleveland Guardians pitcher Logan Allen will look to take down a division rival Tuesday night when he takes on the Kansas City Royals on the road. The left-hander has enjoyed a solid rookie season that includes a 3.60 ERA, 4.08 FIP, 4.43 SIERA, and a 13.8% K-BB% across 23 starts on the season. He has been excellent his last two times out, combining to allow just two earned runs across 10 innings while striking out 11 in that time, albeit with five walks as well. Allen has been particularly strong on the road this season where he sports a 3.23 ERA, 3.49 FIP, and a 25% K% in 61 1/3 innings versus a 3.98 ERA, 4.67 FIP, and a 19.8% K% across 61 innings at home. He has pitched 10 2/3 innings of four-run ball against the Royals across two starts this season.
