Olu Fashanu Taking Part in Offseason Workouts

New York Jets offensive tackle Olu Fashanu (foot) has been taking part in voluntary organized team activities this offseason after suffering a foot injury that ended his rookie season early in 2024 in Week 16. Now that Fashanu is back on the field in June, he should be a full-go for training camp this summer, the preseason, and the start of the 2025 campaign in the fall. The good news is that the 22-year-old tackle didn't require surgery for his foot injury, which is why he's available during OTAs. The Jets expect their offensive line to be a strength in 2025 after a disappointing 2024 season that ended in another year without a trip to the playoffs. If healthy, Fashanu is expected to be the blind-side protector for new quarterback Justin Fields at left tackle.

Olu Fashanu Heading To Injured Reserve, Needs Foot Surgery

New York Jets rookie left tackle Olu Fashanu (foot) is heading to Injured Reserve and will have season-ending foot surgery after getting hurt in the Week 16 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. More specifically, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said Fashanu is dealing with a plantar-fascia injury. The 22-year-old first-rounder out of Penn State ends what had been a strong rookie season early after he settled in as the team's starting left tackle in place of Tyron Smith after he injured his neck in November. With Fashanu now done for the final two games of the regular season, expect Max Mitchell to take over on the left side of the offensive line as the blind-side protector for quarterback Aaron Rodgers (knee). Fashanu is expected to make a full recovery and should be ready to go for the team's workouts next spring.

Olu Fashanu Ruled Out With Foot Injury

According to the team, New York Jets rookie offensive tackle Olu Fashanu (foot) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams. The Penn State product was carted off after sustaining the injury. Fantasy managers should expect Max Mitchell to operate as the starting left tackle for the remainder of the afternoon.

Olu Fashanu A Full Participant At OTAs

New York Jets rookie offensive tackle Olu Fashanu (quadriceps) was a full participant at organized team activities earlier this week. Fashanu has been recovering from a strained quadriceps muscle that he suffered while running the 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine in February but appears to be fine now and should be ready for training camp, the preseason and the start of his rookie season in 2024. The Jets selected the 21-year-old with the 11th overall pick in last month's NFL draft, so Fashanu will most likely become a starter for the Jets sooner than later in 2024. The move to bolster the team's offensive line early in the draft made sense, considering the Jets need to do a better job of protecting veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers so that he can stay healthy for a full season.

Jets Sign Olu Fashanu To Rookie Deal

The New York Jets agreed to terms with first-round pick Olu Fashanu on his rookie deal on Monday. The deal is for four years and $20,510,710 fully guaranteed and includes the standard fifth-year team option. It was reported on Sunday that Fashanu strained his quadriceps while running the 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine and could miss some or all of the Jets' organized team activities this offseason. The Jets took the 21-year-old with the 11th overall pick in this year's NFL draft to give veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers some more protection in 2024. Barring a setback, Fashanu should be ready to go for the start of his rookie season this fall. So far, he's been working off to the side with trainers during the team's rookie minicamp.

Jets Take Olumuyiwa Fashanu At No. 11

After swapping picks with the Vikings, the Jets selected offensive tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu with the No. 11 pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. The 21-year-old had a potent collegiate career with Penn State and was named an All-American in 2023. While there were rumblings the Jets would draft a tight end, the team ultimately decided to protect Aaron Rodgers, who will be entering the 2024-25 campaign coming off a season-ending Achilles injury.
