Phillip Dorsett News
New England Patriots wide receiver Phillip Dorsett seems like a logical fit for the No. 3 wideout duties this year, although Dontrelle Inman also has a chance to be a big-bodied option who can play inside and out. Inman played over a third of his snaps in the slot last year and played over 60 percent of his snaps in the slot in 2016. Julian Edelman will man the slot, while rookie N'Keal Harry will be on the outside. Demaryius Thomas (Achilles) is on the outside looking in for now for a roster spot until he proves his health in training camp. The 26-year-old Dorsett saw a little fantasy love to begin last year with Edelman suspended, and he finished with 32 receptions for 290 yards and three touchdowns. He'll be more of a sleeper in standard-scoring formats as a deep threat for Tom Brady.
The New England Patriots re-signed wide receiver Phillip Dorsett to an undisclosed one-year deal on Wednesday a day after tendering an offer to restricted free-agent receiver Josh Gordon, according to a source. Dorsett will join Julian Edelman, Gordon (suspended indefinitely), Braxton Berrios and Damoun Patterson. Dorsett caught 76 percent of his targets last year, but his role shrunk once Edelman returned from his four-game suspension and after the team acquired Gordon in a trade. He could once again have an expanded role in 2019, depending on Gordon's status, and Dorsett's elite speed could make him a sleeper in fantasy.
The Houston Texans have called about New England Patriots wide receiver Phillip Dorsett, but it doesn't sound like there has been much progress on a potential trade, according to a source. The Texans are unlikely to trade for Dorsett after landing Demaryius Thomas from the Broncos on Tuesday. Dorsett started off the year as a sleeper play in DFS games with Julian Edelman suspended, but he's now buried on the depth chart and has only four catches since Oct. 4. He should be on the waiver wire in most leagues.
New England Patriots wide receiver Phillip Dorsett caught only three passes for 25 yards in the Patriots 38-24 win over the Colts. Dorsett's decrease in production isn't much of a surprise with the return of Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon making strides in the offense. Dorsett did an admirable job filling in during the first month of the season but should become more of a complementary player moving forward. The Patriots have a strong matchup against a poor Chiefs defense in Week 6 but Dorsett should not be considered fantasy viable.
New England Patriots wide receiver Phillip Dorsett has been solid through the first month of the season, posting 16 catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns. When the offense is flowing Dorsett's way, the receiver has delivered with some excellent catches. But his value should take a hit with the return of quarterback Tom Brady's favorite target, Julian Edelman. Dorsett could easily stay involved in the game plan but already has one game with zero catches. Dorsett's value will be too volatile for fantasy lineups against a Colts defense that has allowed the second fewest fantasy points to receivers.
