Brayden Point Records Unique Hat Trick Versus Capitals
Tampa Bay Lightning center Brayden Point bagged his fifth career hat trick in very strange circumstances in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to Washington. After he had bagged two goals in the first period, Point was credited with a third goal in the final frame when Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren put the puck into his own net on a failed clearance attempt. It's the first time on record (since 2009-10) that a hat trick has been completed via an own goal in the NHL. The goal gave Tampa Bay a 4-3 lead, but luckily for Lindgren, the Capitals were able to turn things around inside the final 10 minutes of play. Point has been hot in front of the net all year, potting 15 goals in 17 games, which puts him tied for third in the league. He has also picked up five assists.

Filip Gustavsson Records Second Shutout Of The Season
Minnesota Wild goaltender Filip Gustavsson bounced back from two consecutive defeats with a shutout performance on Wednesday versus Buffalo, stopping 39 pucks in a 1-0 road win. The Wild No. 1 became the 10th netminder in the league with multiple shutouts this campaign. Winnipeg's Connor Hellebuyck sits at the top of the pile with three. Only Hellebuyck and Dallas' Jake Oettinger boast more wins than Gustavsson. The 26-year-old Swede has gone 10-4-3 for the campaign, allowing 2.06 goals with a .929 save percentage. Gustavsson has developed into one of the best goalies in the league and should start for fantasy managers each night.

Chicago Blackhawks left wing Taylor Hall regained his MVP form for one night as he netted his fifth career hat trick in Wednesday's 6-2 win over Dallas. Hall started the damage just 17 seconds into the game and already had two goals inside six minutes. He hadn't scored three goals in a single game since 2013. The 2018 Hart Trophy winner has had a difficult time in recent years, and his production has been lacking in 2024-25 as well, even leading to Hall sitting as a healthy scratch. St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington was outstanding with a 31-save performance in Wednesday's 3-0 win over New Jersey, becoming the team's all-time leader in wins. Making a 290th start for the Blues, Binnington grabbed his 152th win, surpassing Mike Liut, who currently works as Binnington's agent. The 31-year-old did so with his 16th shutout for the club, his first this season. Binnington has had his fair share of struggles in the Blues crease, but taking over the franchise record for wins is no mean feat. 2024-25 has been another inconsistent campaign for the Blues No. 1, as Binnington has gone 7-9-1 with a 2.86 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage.

Anaheim Ducks center Leo Carlsson (upper body) is considered day-to-day by the team. The 19-year-old talent was hurt on Monday versus Seattle and didn't play in Wednesday's rematch between the two teams. Detroit Red Wings right wing Patrick Kane (upper body) will miss a second consecutive game on Wednesday against Calgary. Kane missed his first game of the season against the Islanders on Monday. He remains day-to-day with an upper-body injury but is expected to return soon. The Red Wings have their next game on Friday versus New Jersey. Kane is in the middle of a five-game scoring drought and has averaged just 0.5 points per game this season. In 20 appearances, he has contributed three goals and seven assists. With 22 games played, Guenther has tallied 10 goals and 10 assists with 56 shots and a plus-seven rating. The young winger now gets some time off before facing Connor McDavid and the Oilers. Friday's game gives Guenther a chance to match the longest point streak of his young career.

The 28-year-old is currently enjoying a hot spell, grabbing at least one point in five consecutive outings. This matches Garland's longest scoring streak since April 2022. It's helped Garland become the most prolific forward on the team. He has tallied 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) across 20 appearances.
