Veteran free-agent edge rusher Aaron Lynch has not played in the NFL since 2020, but he reportedly had a positive workout with the Cleveland Browns on Monday and is attempting to re-enter the league. Lynch was originally a 2014 fifth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers out of Notre Dame and racked up 111 tackles, 21 sacks, one fumble recovery, one interception, 11 passes defended, and 17 run stuffs in 81 games with the 49ers, Chicago Bears, and Jacksonville Jaguars. His best season was in 2015 when he posted 6.5 sacks. The 31-year-old entered the business world following the 2020 season, so it'll be interesting to see if he can complete the comeback and make a 53-man roster ahead of the 2024 season.
The Cleveland Browns have signed quarterback Tyler Huntley to a one-year deal on Sunday. It's a bit surprising to see the Baltimore Ravens let Huntley walk away considering he has been a viable option for them over the last few seasons. During his career, Huntley has thrown for 1,957 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions, adding 509 rushing yards to his total as well. Huntley also started a playoff game for the Ravens during the 2022 season against the Cincinnati Bengals. Now, the 26-year-old will get a chance to compete for the backup job in Cleveland. He'll have plenty of competition with Jameis Winston and Dorian Thompson-Robinson also trying to secure a backup quarterback spot on the Browns.
The Cleveland Browns re-signed safety Rodney McLeod (biceps) to an undisclosed one-year deal on Saturday, the team announced. McLeod is coming off surgery to fix a torn biceps, but he's been an excellent leader for the defense and is another former Jim Schwartz player from their time together with the Philadelphia Eagles. The 33-year-old former undrafted free agent was limited to just 10 games (five starts) in his first year in Cleveland in 2023 due to his biceps injury, and he ultimately finished with 29 tackles (16 solo). He was also a key contributor on special teams and is expected to fill a similar role in 2024 in his second year with the Browns. McLeod has racked up 718 tackles (508 solo), two sacks, 25 tackles for loss, 18 interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 61 passes defended, 11 forced fumbles and nine fumble recoveries (two returned for TDs) in his 12 NFL seasons with four different teams.
Former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is joining the Cleveland Browns staff as a coaching and personnel consultant, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The former NFL linebacker was fired by Tennessee after going 13-21 in his last two seasons at the helm. He now lands on his feet with an organization that made the playoff last year with Joe Flacco at quarterback. Although he won't be in a prominent role, the former NFL Head Coach of the Year could use this opportunity to grow as a coach and ultimately land another head gig as soon as the 2025 season.
The Cleveland Browns restructured the contract of newly acquired wide receiver Jerry Jeudy on Friday to create more than $10 million in 2024 salary cap space. Jeudy is entering the fifth-year option season on his rookie deal and hasn't reached any kind of extension with the Browns since being acquired from the Denver Broncos last weekend, so the restructure likely adds void years to his deal. The 24-year-old former first-rounder from Alabama didn't live up to expectations in Denver in his four years with the team, accumulating 211 catches for 3,053 yards and 11 touchdowns in 57 games (44 starts). He's now set to serve as the No. 2 wideout in Cleveland behind Amari Cooper while taking passes from quarterback Deshaun Watson. Perhaps the change of scenery will do him well, but he'll also be battling for targets with slot man Elijah Moore.
