Dexter Lawrence II News
The New York Giants and All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence agreed to a four-year, $90 million contract extension on Thursday, according to sources. The deal includes $60 million guaranteed. The deal makes Lawrence the third-highest-paid defensive tackle in the NFL. The former first-round pick (17th overall) in 2019 out of Clemson made his first Pro Bowl in 2022 by recording a career-high 68 tackles (35 solo), a career-high 7.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, 28 QB hits, three passes defensed and two forced fumbles in 16 regular season starts in his fourth NFL campaign. The 25-year-old will once again be a key defensive player for the G-Men in 2023 as they look to get back into the playoffs for the second straight year.
New York Giants standout defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence won't report for the start of the team's offseason program next Monday due to his contract situation, according to sources. Running back Saquon Barkley also won't report after receiving the franchise tag. Lawrence is a former first-round pick that is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie deal. He was a second-team All-Pro last year when he had a career-high 68 tackles (35 solo), career-high 7.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, 28 QB hits and two forced fumbles in 16 regular season starts. The 25-year-old led the Giants in sacks in 2022, and regardless of whether he signs a long-term extension with the team, he should be a key pass-rusher for them yet again in 2023.
The New York Giants selected Clemson defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence with the No. 17 overall pick of the 2019 NFL draft. This is the pick that the Giants acquired from the Browns in the trade that sent receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to Cleveland. Lawrence is the third defensive lineman taken from Clemson in the first round, believe it or not. He was 360 pounds as a freshman recruit. Lawrence is a hog molly on the D line that will take up space and help smother the run. Despite his size, he has solid speed and an ability to push the pocket as well.
