Ernest Jones News
Los Angeles Rams linebacker Ernest Jones suffered a high ankle sprain in Sunday's win over the Minnesota Vikings and is considered week-to-week. There is a chance he returns for the playoffs, which would be a big boost for the defense as the 22-year-old emerged as a starter midway through the year. Jones has 36 solo tackles, one sack, and two interceptions so far this season. Travin Howard replaced Jones and was impressive, as he recorded an interception and two pass breakups against the Vikings, so he will likely carve out a larger role in his absence.
Los Angeles Rams rookie linebacker Ernest Jones (ankle) is believed to have suffered the dreaded high ankle sprain in Sunday's win over the Minnesota Vikings, according to a source, and he's considered week-to-week with a chance to return for the playoffs. Jones, a third-round pick in the draft, emerged as a starter midway through the season and has impressed by recording 61 tackles, two interceptions and a sack in 15 games played. He has started seven of the Rams last eight games. Travin Howard stepped in to replace Jones in Week 16 and figures to see more playing time in the final two games of the regular season with Jones unlikely to play.
The Los Angeles Rams selected South Carolina linebacker Ernest Jones with the No. 103 overall pick in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft on Friday night. Jones is incredibly long (6-foot-2, 230 pounds) and active in the middle of the football field. He's much better against the run than in the passing game and has the short-area quickness to become a pretty solid coverage linebacker at the next level. Jones has great tackling technique and knows how to lay a good lick on a defender. If he's coached up right and continues to improve, he could be one to monitor in IDP leagues down the road because of his tackling ability and savvy in the run game.
