Former West Virginia University wide receiver Gary Jennings has been invited for a tryout with the Carolina Panthers. Jennings is available on the open market after the Kansas City Chiefs waived him from Injured Reserve last August due to a concussion. He did not play at all in 2022 and has only one NFL reception, back in his rookie season in 2019 with the Miami Dolphins. The 26-year-old will hope to impress Carolina's coaching staff in order to sign a contract. Even if Jennings lands in Carolina, he's likely to be a long shot to make the active roster out of training camp this summer.
Gary Jennings Learning The Slot, Boundary Positions
Miami Dolphins second-year wide receiver Gary Jennings is learning the slot, where he had success at West Virginia, and the boundary receiver positions. If Jennings makes the team, he could be used to create mismatches on smaller, slower players. He was drafted by the Seahawks in the fourth round last year and claimed off waivers by the Dolphins in November. Jennings was injured in his first game with Miami. He's expected to compete with Allen Hurns and Isaiah Ford, among others, for the fifth and sixth receiver jobs in training camp. Rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has spent time with Jennings in his first two weeks in Miami. DeVante Parker, Preston Williams and Albert Wilson will be the team's top three wideouts.
The Miami Dolphins claimed wide receiver Gary Jennings off waivers from the Seahawks, according to a league source. This comes after the team learned that rookie Preston Williams would miss the rest of the season after getting injured in the Week 9 win over the Jets. Jennings was a fourth-round pick by Seattle, but he failed to make an impact despite his speed and didn't see action in any game this year. His signing is notable given Miami's lack of receiving depth, but he'll still likely be behind Devante Parker, Albert Wilson, Jakeem Grant and Allen Hurns with his new team. Jennings should remain on the waiver wire in all leagues.
