Jason Sanders Might Not Play in 2025

According to Miami Dolphins special teams coordinator Craig Aukerman, the team is uncertain if placekicker Jason Sanders (hip) is close to a return, or if he'll even be available to play in the 2025 campaign. Sanders sustained a hip injury leading up to the start of the regular season, but it appears to be worse than initially thought, as he was expected back after Week 5 but has yet to begin practicing. Considering the team's lack of knowledge regarding his progression and Riley Patterson's excellence working in his stead, it wouldn't be surprising if the 29-year-old didn't kick again until 2026. Fantasy managers can safely drop Sanders if he was being held onto.

Jason Sanders Not Ready to Return to Kicking Duties

Miami Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders (hip) is not ready to return for a Week 6 contest this Sunday against the visiting Los Angeles Chargers, according to head coach Mike McDaniel. Sanders remains on Injured Reserve and has yet to kick in 2025 due to his hip injury. His next chance to make his season debut will come next week when the team travels to Cleveland to take on the Browns. Riley Patterson should handle the kicking duties in Miami for at least another week. The 26-year-old has been perfect through five games, filling in for Sanders, but the problem is that he hasn't had much volume for fantasy purposes. He's gone 5-for-5 on his field-goal tries, including four makes from 40-49 yards out, and 12-for-12 on his extra-point opportunities. Patterson has been money so far, but fantasy managers should have better streaming options in Week 6 at kicker.

Jason Sanders to Remain Sidelined Through Week 5

Miami Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders (hip) is expected to remain on the injured reserve this weekend when the Dolphins face the Carolina Panthers in Week 5, despite being eligible to return. Their top kicker has been on the IR since the beginning of the campaign due to a hip injury. However, David Furones of The Sun Sentinel noted that Sanders is "approaching" his return. As a result, fantasy managers should expect Riley Patterson to remain the starting kicker this weekend. Last season, Sanders posted a strong 90.2% FG%, going 37-41 on attempts and 12-for-14 on 50+ yard attempts. Patterson has gone 4-for-4 on attempts and 9-for-9 on extra points this season. Given that he has yet to tally double-digit fantasy points in a single game this season, he carries low-end streaming upside in Week 5.

Dolphins Place Jason Sanders on Injured Reserve

The Miami Dolphins placed kicker Jason Sanders (hip) on the Injured Reserve on Tuesday due to a hip injury, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. It means that Sanders will be forced to miss at least the first four games of the 2025 season. It was announced on Monday that Sanders would miss four to five weeks, so his placement on the short-term IR isn't a huge surprise. Fantasy managers should obviously be avoiding the 29-year-old kicker in all leagues to begin the season. It's unclear who will kick for the Dolphins in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Sept. 7, but whoever it is will merely be a deep-league streaming option in fantasy. Miami did work out kicker Eddy Pineiro on Tuesday. Sanders has spent all seven of his NFL seasons with the Dolphins and has made 84.6% of his 221 field-goal attempts over 116 games played.

Jason Sanders Expected to Miss 4-5 Weeks With Hip Injury

Miami Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders (hip) is expected to miss the first four to five weeks of the season due to a hip injury, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Dolphins will now look for a new kicker for the start of the 2025 season. It's unknown at this time if Sanders will be placed on short-term Injured Reserve, which would require him to miss at least the first four games of the season. The 29-year-old will not need surgery and will be able to return at some point this year. With the news of Sanders' multi-week injury, fantasy managers can now safely remove him from their draft boards in 2025. In a Dolphins offense that took a step back last year, Sanders actually finished as the No. 8 fantasy kicker by making 37 of his 41 field-goal attempts while also convering on 26 of his 28 extra-point opportunities in 17 regular-season starts.

Jason Sanders Could Be A Cap Casualty

The Miami Dolphins have already cut veteran running back Raheem Mostert, cornerback Kendall Fuller and tight end Durham Smythe this offseason, and The Athletic's Jim Ayello suggests that kicker Jason Sanders could be the next on the chopping block. The Dolphins have one of the worst salary cap situations in the league this year, and cutting big-money players such as left tackle Terron Armstead and linebacker Bradley Chubb would incur huge dead-cap penalties ($32.7 million for Armstead and $27.3 million for Chubb). Sanders has a fair cap hit of $4.7 million in 2025, but the Dolphins could get additional cap space of $3.3 million by cutting him. The 29-year-old was a top-10 fantasy kicker in 2024 and made a career-high 37 of his 41 field-goal attempts in 17 games while missing just two of his extra-point tries. This situation purely comes down to salary-cap space for Miami.

Jason Sanders Hits Two More Field Goals In Week 18 Loss

Miami Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders made 2-of-2 field attempts and both extra points in the 32-20 loss to the New York Jets in Week 18. His long came from 28 yards out. He will end the season by making his last 27 field goals and finishing the year as the fifth-ranked kicker in fantasy football. Sanders started the year slow and inconsistent, but things turned around as soon as Tua Tagovailoa returned from injury in Week 8. The 29-year-old has proved his worth in the 2024 campaign, hitting several big kicks late in games. He figures to be one of the most sought-after kickers when the 2025 fantasy football season comes around in September.

Jason Sanders A Sneaky Start For Week 18

Miami Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders has been the hottest kicker in all football throughout the second half of the season. He has made 25 straight field goals and is the fifth-ranked kicker in fantasy football. Sanders and the Dolphins will travel to East Rutherford to take on the New York Jets in Week 18. With Tyler Huntley likely the starter, it's not farfetched that Miami could settle for a few field goals this week. The Jets struggle giving up fantasy points to kickers, ranking 31st in fantasy points per game, on top of allowing a 90% field goal percentage. If you're a fantasy manager in need of a kicker for your fantasy championship, he could be a very viable option.

Jason Sanders Delivers In Victory Against Browns

Miami Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders had a perfect day on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, hitting both field goal attempts and both extra points in a 20-3 victory that kept Miami's playoff hopes alive for another week. The kicker crushed a 54-yarder in the first quarter, no small feat given the muddy field conditions in rainy Cleveland. He also hit a 39-yarder on the last play of the first half that gave Miami a lead it kept the rest of the way. Managers who started Sanders despite the Dolphins being without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (hip) were rewarded with a performance befitting a top-10 fantasy kicker. The Dolphins will conclude the regular season in Week 18 at the New York Jets.

Jason Sanders A Sit Despite Hot Streak In Week 17

Miami Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders has been one of the best kickers in fantasy football over the last several games. He has scored the most fantasy points by any kicker since Week 8 and has made his last 23 field goal attempts. In Week 17, he and the Dolphins will travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns in brutal kicking conditions. There is projected to be a 50% chance of rain and 25+ mph gusts at kick-off. To make matters worse, the Browns allow the lowest field goal percentage in the entire NFL at 69%. As hot as Sanders has been, he is best left on the bench for Week 17. He comes in as the 18th-ranked kicker in this week's RotoBaller rankings.
