RJ Harvey Facing Difficult Matchup With Backup Quarterback in AFC Championship

Denver Broncos running back RJ Harvey provided underwhelming production in his team's AFC Divisional Round win over the Buffalo Bills, recording 66 scrimmage yards on 11 touches. On the bright side, Harvey helped fantasy managers in PPR scoring formats by doing most of his damage as a receiver, hauling in five catches for 46 yards on six targets. However, Harvey will now be working with Broncos backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham in the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots. The Patriots' defense has been dominant so far this postseason, allowing just 19 total points and forcing six turnovers through two games. Harvey should at least maintain RB1 status in Denver, as veteran back J.K. Dobbins (foot) will remain sidelined by a foot injury. Harvey could also see plenty of work as a short-area target for Stidham, particularly if Denver falls behind early in the game. Still, Harvey is facing an uphill battle with a backup quarterback against a tough defense and may struggle in the AFC Championship Game.

RJ Harvey's Stock is Falling With Backup QB Leading the Offense

Denver Broncos rookie running back RJ Harvey had a disappointing showing on the ground in the Divisional Round win over the Buffalo Bills, carrying the ball six times for only 20 yards. Harvey helped his fantasy managers in PPR leagues by catching five of a season-high six targets for 46 yards through the air, though. Against a weaker Buffalo run defense, it was a disappointing performance for Harvey, who saw his lowest carry total since Week 10. Things won't get any easier for the second-rounder going into a tough AFC Championship matchup against the visiting New England Patriots. Although Denver may put more of an emphasis on trying to get their ground game going now that starting quarterback Bo Nix (ankle) is out the rest of the way, it doesn't mean that Harvey will have success against a Patriots defense that allowed the fourth-fewest half-PPR points per game to RBs this year, including only eight rushing TDs.

RJ Harvey Faces Plus Matchup in Playoff Debut

Denver Broncos rookie running back RJ Harvey makes his playoff debut on Saturday against a Bills defense that ranked 26th in the NFL against fantasy running backs in the regular season. Down the stretch, in particular, Buffalo's defense was viewed as a run funnel, with teams finding more success on the ground than through the air, and in last week's Wild Card win over the Jaguars, Buffalo allowed 154 yards on only 23 carries. Since taking over for J.K. Dobbins (foot) as Denver's RB1 following a Week 10 foot injury, Harvey has scored six touchdowns in his last seven games, and he is RotoBaller's RB4 for the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

RJ Harvey Could Carry Denver to AFC Title Game

Denver Broncos running back R.J. Harvey finished his rookie season with 896 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns, helping the Broncos win their first division title since 2015. Harvey began the season as a backup to starter J.K. Dobbins, but after Dobbins went down with a foot injury in Week 10, Harvey took over. Since the injury, Harvey has ranked as the RB13, averaging 15.2 PPR points per game. He faces a Buffalo Bills run defense that has allowed the eighth-most fantasy points this season. The Jaguars were productive on the ground against the Bills in the Wild Card Round, with Travis Etienne and Bhayshul Tuten totaling 118 rushing yards on just 14 carries. With the Bills boasting one of the NFL's strongest pass defenses, the Broncos will need to rely on Harvey and the run game to advance to the AFC Championship.

RJ Harvey's Late-Season Ineffectiveness Could Carry into Playoffs

Denver Broncos running back RJ Harvey averaged 2.4 yards per carry over his last two games of the regular season, including a 15-carry, 28-yard Week 18 performance against a Chargers defense resting the majority of its starters. His fantasy value has been buoyed by an above-average touchdown rate and extensive work in the passing game, but dating back to Week 9, Harvey has averaged more than 3.5 yards per carry in only two of his last nine games. Five times in that span, he has been held to less than 2.7 yards per carry. The Broncos earned a first-round bye as the top seed in the AFC, but fantasy managers rostering Harvey in any playoff leagues should be rooting for wins by the Patriots and Bills in Wild Card Weekend, ensuring a Divisional Round matchup between the Broncos and Bills. Buffalo is widely regarded as having the softest run defense in the AFC playoff field and represents the clearest path for Harvey to have an impact performance.

R.J. Harvey A Solid RB1 for Regular Season Finale

Denver Broncos running back R.J. Harvey has been producing as a top-five back in fantasy since the Week 12 bye. With J.K. Dobbins (foot) suffering a season-ending foot injury in Week 10, Harvey has stepped into a workhorse role for the Broncos. Over the past five games, the rookie second-rounder is averaging 19.3 PPR points per game, scoring six total touchdowns. The UCF product hasn't been overly dynamic on his touches, averaging just 3.8 yards per carry, but has been very involved in the pass game, catching 18 balls during that five-game span. Harvey profiles as a strong RB1 again in Week 18, though it is a tough matchup against a Los Angeles Chargers defense that has allowed the fourth fewest PPR points per game to running backs this season.

RJ Harvey Extends Scoring Streak to Five Games Straight

Denver Broncos rookie running back RJ Harvey stole the show again in the Week 17 20-13 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Harvey had 14 carries for 43 yards and added a team-leading five catches on six targets for 33 yards with a receiving touchdown in the final minutes that won them the game. This touchdown marks Harvey's 12th of his rookie season and came on a play that displayed elite chemistry with quarterback Bo Nix. Harvey and the Broncos will host the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 18 as they look to clinch the top seed in the AFC with another win.

RJ Harvey Set to Deliver in Week 17 Championship Matchups

Denver Broncos running back RJ Harvey gets to travel and face the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas in Week 17. Since the Week 12 bye, Harvey has produced RB1 consensus numbers in all but one game, averaging 17.25 touches for 87 yards and 1.25 touchdowns per game in that four-week stretch. Profiling as a potential league winner on the season, Harvey will look to carry the momentum from his Week 16 performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars, in which he had 121 yards and a touchdown on 11 touches. With RotoBaller ranking Harvey as the RB14 overall for Week 17, he should be relied upon as a high-end RB2 with upside.

RJ Harvey Explodes for Most Efficient Day Yet Against in Week 16

Denver Broncos rookie running back RJ Harvey turned in the most efficient game of his season in the Week 16 34-20 loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Harvey had a stellar day with several explosive plays, leading to seven rushes for 50 yards and a touchdown, adding four catches on five targets for 71 receiving yards. Averaging 11 yards per touch is no easy task, but Harvey continues to impress and did this against a defense that was dominant against the run, with the lowest average rushing yards allowed per game coming into Week 16 at just 86.3. On a short week against the defeated Kansas City Chiefs, Harvey should be able to redeem himself from his Week 11 dud when he last faced them.

RJ Harvey Looks to Continue Touchdown Streak in Week 16

Denver Broncos rookie running back RJ Harvey is set to dominate backfield touches again against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16, but faces another difficult test. The Jaguars currently rank first in the NFL in average rushing yards allowed per game, at just 86.3. With the Broncos having success in Week 15 through the air while facing the Green Bay Packers, it's possible that they could lean more towards the passing game as a focal point to keep the win streak alive. While Harvey has scored at least one touchdown on the ground in three consecutive games and averages 75.7 total yards per game in that stretch, RotoBaller ranks him as the RB14 overall for Week 16.
