Brandon Jones News
The Denver Broncos are planning to sign free-agent safety Brandon Jones to an undisclosed three-year deal this week, according to a source. Jones, 25, was a former third-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2020 out of Texas. The former Longhorn spent the first four years of his NFL career in South Beach and recorded 48 tackles (36 solo), a career-high two interceptions, four passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 16 regular-season games (six starts) for Miami in 2023. Jones isn't exactly on the IDP fantasy radar at defensive back, but he was impressive nonetheless for Miami's secondary last year and will be a big help in replacing Justin Simmons, who was released late last week.
Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed on Wednesday that safety Brandon Jones (knee) suffered a season-ending torn ACL in the Week 7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's a significant blow for a young versatile playmaker who was having a strong season in his third year in the league. The 24-year-old was entering Week 8 tied for 17th in overall fantasy points among defensive backs in IDP leagues. Jones will end his season with 49 tackles (26 solo), two sacks, three passes defensed and one forced fumble in seven games played. Miami's secondary will be missing a big-time playmaker for the rest of the 2022 season. Eric Rowe will start at strong safety this weekend against the Detroit Lions.
Miami Dolphins safety Brandon Jones (knee) suffered a knee injury on Sunday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth quarter and has been ruled out for the rest of the contest. Before leaving the game, the team's leader in tackles had seven tackles (two solo). For the rest of the game, expect Eric Rowe and Clayton Fejedelem to see more defensive snaps in Miami's secondary. The 24-year-old Jones came into the Week 7 game with 42 tackles (24 solo), two sacks, three passes defensed and one forced fumble in six games. It remains to be seen if Jones' injury is serious enough to keep out in Week 8 against the Detroit Lions. Fantasy managers in IDP leagues that have been using Jones as their starting defensive back will need to have backup options heading into next Sunday's game.
