Jonah Coleman Flashes Upside in NFL Debut

Denver Broncos running back Jonah Coleman rushed for 24 yards on four carries during Friday's preseason contest against the Atlanta Falcons. However, he was not targeted in the passing game. A 2026 fourth-round pick out of Washington, Coleman projects as the Broncos' No. 3 running back, but he has remarkable upside. Between his size, athleticism, and college production, Coleman has the makings of someone who can someday be relevant in both redraft and dynasty leagues. His efficiency on Friday was a step in the right direction, as he averaged six yards per carry and broke free for 13 yards on his biggest play of the day. The biggest obstacle for Coleman right now is the depth chart. Both JK Dobbins and RJ Harvey are ahead of Coleman, and that won't change anytime soon. Nevertheless, he's a low-cost running back worth stashing in most dynasty leagues.

Jonah Coleman Impresses in Pass Protection

Denver Broncos rookie running back Jonah Coleman gave the coaching staff another good sign Tuesday, this time in pass protection. According to Troy Renck, Coleman had a couple of nice blitz pickups during practice. That matters for a rookie trying to earn snaps in Sean Payton's offense, especially because Payton praised that part of Coleman's game after the draft and said he could play on third down. Denver took Coleman 108th overall after he rushed for 758 yards and 15 touchdowns at Washington last season. He has also been getting positive reviews throughout camp, with Payton recently saying Coleman does not feel like a rookie. The Broncos still have J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey in a crowded backfield, so one good practice rep is not going to settle anything. Still, Coleman showing he can recognize pressure and hold up in protection gives Denver another reason to trust him when the offense gets into passing situations.

Jonah Coleman Making Case for Bigger Role in Broncos Backfield

Denver Broncos running back Jonah Coleman has been one of the standouts of training camp, raising the possibility that Denver could find regular work for all three of its top backs, according to Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post. The fourth-round rookie joins J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey in a suddenly deep backfield. Dobbins averaged 5.0 yards per carry in 10 games last season, while Harvey scored 12 total touchdowns as a rookie. Coleman brings plenty of his own production after rushing for 758 yards and 15 touchdowns at Washington last season while adding 31 catches for 354 yards and two scores. His physical running style and ability to contribute on third down have also earned praise from Sean Payton. Denver still has to figure out how to divide the touches, but Coleman is making it increasingly difficult to view this as simply a two-back rotation.

Jonah Coleman Continues To Impress At Training Camp

Denver Broncos rookie running back Jonah Coleman continues to have a strong training camp and had another great practice on Saturday, according to Broncos beat writer Zac Stevens. Coleman had several good runs between the tackles and found the end zone during Saturday's practice. The 22-year-old has been a pleasant surprise for the Broncos at training camp so far and could carve out a role in Denver's backfield. Coleman was drafted by the Broncos in the fourth round, 108th overall, giving Denver a running back that can produce between the tackles. The Broncos' rookie could force a three-way split for touches with RJ Harvey and J.K. Dobbins if he continues to have a strong camp. Coleman is worth a late-round gamble as a stash, especially if Dobbins or Harvey were to miss any time.

Broncos Rookie RB Jonah Coleman Stands Out in Camp on Friday

Denver Broncos rookie running back Jonah Coleman "had the best run of any RB in pads so far this camp" on Friday, according to Cody Roark of Mile High Sports. Head coach Sean Payton has singled out the fourth-rounder from the University of Washington as being one of the team's pleasant surprises early in training camp, and the 22-year-old will have a role in Denver's backfield in his first year in the NFL. However, despite his impressive performance this summer, Roark believes that J.K. Dobbins and second-year back RJ Harvey will get the primary reps and touches in the Broncos' backfield in 2026, with Coleman playing more of the Tyler Badie role as the RB3. At 5-foot-8 and 220 pounds, Coleman will give the Broncos' RB room something they've been lacking: a physical and tough presence between the tackles. But his weekly volume, at least to begin his rookie season, probably will not be there. Payton appears to be leaning towards more of a backfield committee, but that could all change if the oft-injured Dobbins misses more time in 2026. At best, Coleman will be an RB to stash in redraft fantasy leagues as a handcuff for Dobbins.

Jonah Coleman has Made an Impression on Sean Payton

When Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton was asked for a pleasant surprise of training camp so far, he started his answer with rookie running back Jonah Coleman, according to Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post. The fourth-rounder "has made quite an impression" so far this summer on the coaching staff, with Payton adding that Coleman "doesn't feel like a rookie." The 22-year-old University of Washington product is a bowling ball at 5-foot-8 and 220 pounds, but his path to a large role in his first year in the NFL is convoluted, with J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey both expected to have prominent roles in Payton's backfield. If Coleman continues to impress, though, he should have a role in what is shaping up as a committee approach in Denver. Going into his rookie campaign, Coleman is a more intriguing dynasty/keeper asset than a redraft one, but Coleman will become much more interesting if the oft-injured Dobbins misses more time in 2026. Coleman's quickest path to fantasy relevance with the Broncos will likely come as a goal-line vulture. RotoBaller currently has the rookie ranked as the No. 54 fantasy RB for this season.

Jonah Coleman a Top Target for Rebuilders in Dynasty Formats

The Denver Broncos selected running back Jonah Coleman out of Washington in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL draft, and he is slated to be the team's RB3, behind J.K. Dobbins (foot), whom they just re-signed to a two-year contract, and behind RJ Harvey, whom they spent second-round draft capital on in 2025. Coleman profiles as more of a bowling-ball-type running back, standing at 5'8 ", 220 lbs. Over his past two collegiate seasons at Washington, he accumulated 27 touchdowns, 54 receptions, 531 receiving yards, and 1,811 rushing yards. He profiles as a true bell-cow back with receiving upside and has received comparisons to guys like David Montgomery of the Houston Texans. For the 2026 season, he will be buried on the depth chart and likely won't be relevant in the first half of the season barring injury; however, the Broncos are not committed to Dobbins long-term and Harvey did not capitalize on his from an efficiency standpoint in 2025, so Coleman is a top target in dynasty formats, specifically for teams who are rebuilding or just need to get younger at the running back position.

Jonah Coleman to be Involved in Committee Backfield in Denver?

The Denver Broncos made an impactful offseason move with the drafting of rookie running back Jonah Coleman in the fourth round, but they also re-signed veteran J.K. Dobbins and still have RJ Harvey at the position. The Denver Post's Luca Evans writes that Dobbins, Harvey, and Coleman "will almost assuredly form some kind of three-man carousel." Jaleel McLaughlin or Tyler Badie will serve as a change-of-pace insurance option. Dobbins was on his way to a career year in 2025 in his first year in Denver before suffering a season-ending foot injury. The 27-year-old former second-rounder should once again factor heavily into the Broncos' rushing attack in 2026, but his injury history makes a committee approach involving both Harvey and Coleman all the more necessary for a team looking to become more efficient on the ground and balanced overall on offense. At 5-foot-8, 220 pounds, Coleman should be an instant upgrade over Badie for possible third-down touches. He could also spell Dobbins for short-yardage touches early on, and he'd become an every-week fantasy starter if Dobbins misses more time due to injury. Coleman is more of an intriguing dynasty/keeper asset in 2026 than a redraft one because he won't be a lock for a heavy workload in his first year in the NFL unless one of Dobbins or Harvey misses extended time. He's ranked as RotoBaller's No. 54 fantasy RB for 2026.

Jonah Coleman Profiles as a Priority Dynasty Stash Candidate Ahead of 2026

After recording 1,112 scrimmage yards and 17 touchdowns on 187 touches across 12 games for the University of Washington in 2025, running back Jonah Coleman was selected in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. Entering training camp, Coleman likely profiles as the RB3 in Denver behind veteran J.K. Dobbins and 2025 second-rounder RJ Harvey. If Dobbins and Harvey stay healthy, Coleman's usage in 2026 may be limited. However, Dobbins has a long track record of injury issues, as he's cracked 200 touches in just one season since entering the NFL in 2020. Harvey averaged just 3.7 yards per carry as a rookie last season and was much more effective as a receiver out of the backfield, which could be the role the Broncos envision him playing long-term. With a steady rookie season, Coleman could emerge as Denver's lead rusher heading into 2027, and an injury to Dobbins could open a path to playing time even sooner. In dynasty formats, Coleman profiles as a priority stash candidate entering 2026.

Is Jonah Coleman the Most Valuable Broncos Running Back in Dynasty Leagues?

Early on in the pre-draft process, Denver Broncos running back Jonah Coleman was in conversation to become the second running back selected in the 2026 NFL Draft. In falling to Denver in the fourth round, he ultimately became the fourth back off the board, and while the draft capital may be difficult to get overly excited about, the landing spot could prove to be an ideal fit for his well-rounded skill set. Coleman is a proven pass-catcher in a Sean Payton offense that is at its best when involving its backs as receivers. The Broncos spent a 2025 second-round pick on RJ Harvey, but his efficiency metrics were underwhelming across the board as a rookie, while Coleman forced missed tackles at the highest rate of all backs in the incoming rookie class. Veteran J.K. Dobbins could hold onto lead-back duties to enter the year, as he did until a Lisfranc tear ended his 2025 season, but no stranger to injuries, he has now missed 53 of a potential 85 games over the past five seasons. While a slow start to his rookie season would not be unexpected, Coleman could eventually take over as the most fantasy-relevant running back in Denver, and at RotoBaller's rookie RB3, he is one of the higher upside picks in the second round of dynasty rookie drafts.
