Kendrick Green Ready To Compete For Starting Job

Houston Texans offensive guard Kendrick Green (knee) started three of the first four games last year after being acquired in a trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers before tearing the meniscus in his right knee. The former third-rounder from Illinois has made a complete recovery heading into training camp this summer after having surgery last fall. Now that he's healthy, Green is slated to compete for a starting job at left guard this summer with former first-rounder Kenyon Green, who has fully recovered from a torn labrum in his shoulder. "I feel great, I'm ready to get after it," Kendrick Green said. The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder didn't allow any sacks in 208 snaps last season and has started 18 of 19 career games in three NFL seasons.

Kendrick Green Hears Steelers Call His Name

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Illinois offensive lineman Kendrick Green with the No. 87 overall pick in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft on Friday night. Green should become the instant starter under center for the Steelers next season, snapping balls for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He can also play guard, which gives the Steelers some flexibility. Green is explosive and naturally long at 6-foot-4, 315 pounds. He's a bit undersized but makes up for it with his quick feet and great reaction skills. Green gave up zero sacks on 226 pass-blocking attempts last year. This is a great selection for the Steelers offense as a whole in what will likely be Big Ben's final NFL season.
