The Houston Texans agreed to terms with free-agent defensive tackle Tim Settle on Thursday on a two-year deal worth up to $7 million with incentives, according to sources. Settle will join an interesting Texans defensive line after spending the last two seasons with the Buffalo Bills. The 26-year-old spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Commanders after Washington took him in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft out of Virginia Tech. Settle should help make up for the loss of defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins while at least being a rotational player on the interior of Houston's defensive line in 2024. In his last two seasons with the Bills, Settle recorded 20 solo tackles, two sacks, five tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 32 games (four starts).
Washington Commanders defensive tackle Tim Settle agreed with the Buffalo Bills on a two-year deal on Monday, according to a source. Settle will reunite with Tremaine Edmonds from their days at Virginia Tech. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The 24-year-old didn't play much last year in D.C. because of Washington's strong defensive line rotation, but he managed to record five sacks while playing just a third of the defensive snaps in 2020. In his four seasons in the NFL with Washington, the former fifth-round pick has 54 tackles (34 solo), 12 tackles for loss, 12 QB hits, one fumble recovery and seven sacks in 63 games (two starts).
Washington Redskins defensive linemen Tim Settle and Matt Ioannidis (knee) had very different experiences in the first preseason game Thursday. Tim Settle looked explosive at nose tackle and like he could help the defensive line rotation. Meanwhile, Matt Ioannidis left the game with an apparent knee injury. Reports came out later in the night that he "seemed fine" but time will tell. Both could end up being important pieces of a Redskins defensive line that will need to force pressure on the quarterback. Just as importantly, the Redskins are in the same division as Ezekiel Elliott and top rookie running back Saquon Barkley so the defensive line will need to hold up against the run.
