The Athletic's Nick Kosmider writes that it's probably a no-brainer decision for the Denver Broncos to bring back veteran kicker Wil Lutz in 2025 despite the fact that he has no guaranteed money left on his current deal. If the Broncos wanted to, they could cut Lutz this offseason for a savings of at least $3 million with limited dead money left behind. Lutz is scheduled to make $3.89 million in 2025, but after being one of the most accurate and trustworthy kickers in the NFL this past season, it would be a surprise if the Broncos cut him. Not only does head coach Sean Payton have plenty of trust and history with Lutz, but Lutz also kicked for the New Orleans Saints under Darren Rizzi, who is likely to become Denver's next special teams coordinator. The 30-year-old finished as the No. 7 kicker in overall fantasy points by making 31 of his 34 field goal-attempts and all 46 of his extra points in 17 regular-season games.
Wil Lutz Only Makes One Extra Point In Wild-Card Game
Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz was a top-10 fantasy kicker during the regular season, but we warned fantasy managers setting DFS lineups in playoff leagues to avoid him for the wild-card matchup in Buffalo against the Bills on Sunday. Hopefully you did, as Lutz didn't attempt a single field goal and made just one extra point in the 31-7 blowout loss at Orchard Park. Although the Broncos put up a dud to close out what was a successful 2024 season, the 30-year-old Lutz was money in the bank for Denver in his second year with the team. He made 91.2% of his 34 field-goal attempts in 17 regular-season games and didn't miss any of his 47 extra-point opportunities on the year. In his final eight games, Lutz made all 27 of his field goals and went 13-for-13 on extra points. With impressive QB Bo Nix leading Denver's offense moving forward, Lutz should easily be a top-12 fantasy kicking option this fall.
Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz was one of the most consistent fantasy kickers in 2024, making 31 of his 34 field-goal attempts and all 46 of his extra-point tries in 17 games to put him as the No. 7 fantasy kicker. Since having the potential game-winning kick blocked in Week 10 against the Kansas City Chiefs, Lutz has gone 13-for-13 on field goals and 27-for-27 on his extra-point attempts in seven games, so he's bringing a nice perfect streak into the wild-card playoff game in Buffalo against the Bills on Sunday. While the 30-year-old has been money for the Broncos, we'd suggest fading him on the road in frigid temperatures at Orchard Park in a game in which Denver is nearly 10-point underdogs. In addition, Buffalo allowed the third-fewest fantasy points per game (5.9) to opposing kickers in 17 games this season.
The Denver Broncos offense was too efficient in their 38-0 blowout win over the division-rival Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in the Week 18 regular-season finale, which limited kicker Wil Lutz's upside for fantasy managers. With a Chiefs defense resting pretty much all of their top players for the playoffs, they provided little resistance, and the Broncos offense took advantage. The 30-year-old veteran kicker did remain perfect on his kicking opportunities for his seventh straight game, but he made just one field goal and went 5-for-5 on his extra points. Since the Week 10 loss to the Chiefs, Lutz has gone 13-for-13 on his field-goal tries and 27-for-27 on extra points. Lutz has made 91.2% of his field-goal attempts this year and all 46 of his extra points, making him the No. 7 fantasy kicker through 18 weeks. He'll be a bit volatile in Buffalo against the Bills on wild-card weekend, though, depending on the weather.
Wil Lutz A Top-10 Kicker For Week 18 Against Chiefs
Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz hasn't missed a kick since the Week 10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He'll take on the Chiefs again in the Week 18 regular-season finale as the Broncos look to punch their ticket to the postseason for the first time since the 2015 season. Since Lutz's potential game-winning kick was blocked against KC on Nov. 10, he has made all 12 of his field-goal attempts and all 22 of his extra-point opportunities for an ascending Broncos offense. Not only has the 30-year-old veteran been money for Denver by making 90.9% of his field-goal tries this year, but he's been afforded field-goal tries (tied for eighth in the league) and 41 extra-point attempts (sixth), which has led him to being the No. 7 fantasy kicker on the year in overall points. Against a Chiefs defense resting players for the playoffs, Lutz is an easy top-10 fantasy kicker for the final game of the regular season in the altitude in Denver.
Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz has been on a hot streak over the last few weeks. On Saturday, Lutz knocked down all three of his extra point attempts and his lone field goal in the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Lutz has now made all of his kicks over the last six games, which is an impressive streak for the 30-year-old. He'll look to keep it going in a must-win game for Denver against the Kansas City Chiefs next week. Lutz has been one of the better kickers this season and is worth starting in most fantasy formats for the final game of the regular season.
Wil Lutz Looking To Keep Perfect Streak Alive Versus Bengals
Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz enters the team's Week 17 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday on a streak of five straight games without missing a single kick. Since having a potential game-winning field goal blocked against the division-rival Kansas City Chiefs in Week 10, Lutz has made all 11 of his field-goal attempts and all 19 of his extra points in the last five games. He's currently the No. 5 fantasy kicker in 2024 and has made 90.6% (29-for-32) of his field-goal tries over 15 games for the Broncos. He's been as reliable as they come and has pretty much been in the mix as a weekly top-12 kicking option for fantasy managers since midway through the season. The Bengals defense allows the fifth-most points per game (26.2), but they're also allowing only 6.7 fantasy points per game to kickers. Lutz may not be the best fantasy option in Week 17, but he should have a high floor.
Wil Lutz Keeps Perfect Streak Alive In Loss To Chargers
Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz had a serviceable day for fantasy managers in the Week 16 loss to the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football and also kept his made-kick streak alive. Since having the potential game-winning field goal against the Kansas City Chiefs blocked in Week 10, Lutz has gone 11-for-11 on field goals and 19-for-19 on extra points in a span of five games. He made both of his field-goal attempts (long of 55 yards) and all three of his extra-point opportunities in the 34-27 loss to the Bolts on Thursday night to give his fantasy managers a solid 11 points in most scoring formats. The 30-year-old veteran has been one of the most accurate kickers in the league (90.6%) and is getting plenty of opportunities in what has become a capable offense under rookie QB Bo Nix. Lutz will be a must-start in a good matchup in Week 17 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Wil Lutz A Low-End Fantasy Starter Against Chargers
Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz has been money for fantasy managers in 2024, but he'll have a little less upside in a Week 16 divisional matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night. In the Week 6 loss to the Bolts, Lutz made his only field-goal attempt and just one extra point. Lutz will have less upside this week because the Chargers defense is tied for first with Denver for fewest points allowed per game (17.6), meaning points could be hard to come by on the road on a short week late in the season. However, the Chargers have allowed the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing kickers in the last five weeks. Despite the less-than-ideal matchup, the 30-year-old has a high enough floor to put him in the top-10 at his position. Lutz has made 90% of his 30 field-goal attempts this year and is a perfect 9-for-9 on FGs and 16-for-16 on extra points in the last four games.
Wil Lutz Makes Only One Field Goal, Keeps Perfect Streak Alive
Although it wasn't the best fantasy day for Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz in the 31-13 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in Week 15, he did extend his streak of perfection to four straight games. Lutz nailed his lone field-goal attempt on the day from 44 yards out and was also successful on all four of his extra-point opportunities to send the Broncos to 9-5. The 30-year-old veteran has made 90 percent of his 30 field-goal tries in 14 games in his second year in Denver, with two of his three misses on the year being a blocked kick and a try from over 60 yards out. Lutz has been money in the bank, and with Denver's offense picking things up under rookie quarterback Bo Nix in the second half of the season, Lutz has become a top-10 fantasy kicker. Heading into a Thursday divisional showdown against the Los Angeles Chargers, he should once again be considered a top-10 option at the position.
