D'Andre Swift News
Detroit Lions running back D'Andre Swift showcased his receiving skills at mandatory minicamp last week, and he looks stronger this year but hasn't lost any of his shiftiness. Swift is extremely smooth as a pass-catcher and is a matchup nightmare for the defense when he's in space in the passing attack. The 23-year-old was leading all running backs last year in catches last year before missing five games late last season with a shoulder injury. With the Lions being improved on the outside at wide receiver, it should open things up even more for Swift and tight end T.J. Hockenson to get favorable one-on-one matchups in the middle of the field. Swift should once again be a big part of the passing game in 2022, giving him clear RB1 upside, especially in PPR leagues.
Detroit Lions running back D'Andre Swift looks to have bulked up this offseason. Swift's goal this offseason was to add more muscle in order to take some of the big hits that kept him out of four games in his rookie season with a sprained shoulder. The 23-year-old has the skills to be Detroit's featured back, but Jamaal Williams, Craig Reynolds, Greg Bell and Jermar Jefferson will be fighting to steal touches away. In 13 games in 2021, Swift had 213 touches and finished with 1,059 scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns. Other than a 33-carry game against the Steelers, Swift never saw 15 carries in a single game, although he proved plenty valuable for his pass-catching skills. With added offensive weapons in receivers Jameson Williams, D.J. Chark Jr. and Josh Reynolds, Swift could see fewer targets in the passing game.
Detroit Lions running back D'Andre Swift finished with 30 yards and a touchdown off seven carries during the Week 18 win over the Packers. He also had four catches for 16 yards. The 23-year-old closed out the year on a high note, finding the end zone for the first time since Week 11. A shoulder injury sustained during the Thanksgiving NFC North showdown against the Bears kept him off the field for a significant portion of the year. However, if Swift can remain healthy and get some stability from a play-calling standpoint, he has a fantastic chance of remaining a valuable asset in fantasy leagues next season, especially in PPR formats.
