D'Andre Swift News
Detroit Lions running back D'Andre Swift battled injuries throughout this past season. The 24-year-old finished with a career-low 99 carries for 542 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games. Often times, Swift took a backseat to Jamaal Williams who finished with a league-high 17 rushing touchdowns on 1,066 rushing yards. It sounds like the organization wants to bring back Williams, which could be bad news for Swift. Head coach Dan Campbell has already alluded to limiting the workload on Swift. The team doesn't want the former second round pick to face anymore injuries. That being said, Swift could see his value take another hit depending on what the Lions do this offseason. If Williams returns, fantasy managers shouldn't expect Swift to be anything more than a RB2 in fantasy formats.
The Athletic's Colton Pouncy isn't sure there's a future between the Detroit Lions and running back D'Andre Swift, whose rookie contract will be up after the 2023 season. Swift has an extensive injury history, and he'll likely demand too much money to return beyond next season. The Lions have a good thing going at the position, but Jamaal Williams will become a free agent next month. It's expected that Williams will return after scoring a league-high 17 rushing touchdowns on 1,066 rushing yards on 262 attempts. Swift, who was drafted early on as an RB1 by fantasy managers last year, disappointed with a career-low 99 carries for 542 yards and five touchdowns, adding 48 receptions for 389 yards and three more TDs in 14 games (eight starts). If Williams returns, Swift will easily fall to RB2 territory.
Detroit Lions running back D'Andre Swift (ankle, shoulder) played most of the 2022 season with ankle and shoulder injuries, but he said he won't need offseason surgery. He plans to meet with "a couple doctors" about his injuries, but he assumes he will return to full health with rest this offseason. Swift suffered a high-ankle sprain in the season opener and then separated his left shoulder two weeks later, which made him a frustrating fantasy commodity for most of the year. He averaged a career-best 5.5 yards per carry on the year, but he missed three games and had a career-low 99 carries in total for 542 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games. But the 23-year-old finished strong the final two weeks and should be a big part of Detroit's rushing attack again in 2023. Swift should bounce back for fantasy managers with better health.
