Trevon Diggs News
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs (knee) suffered a torn ACL during practice on Thursday, an MRI exam confirmed, according to a source. Diggs will now miss the rest of the 2023 season. The Cowboys defense/special teams unit will still be a top play for the rest of the year, but losing Diggs is huge news going forward. The 26-year-old fourth-year defensive back had already forced two turnovers and had three passes defensed in the first two games of the season. With Diggs out the rest of the way, the Cowboys are prepared to move DaRon Bland to the outside across from corner Stephon Gilmore, with Jourdan Lewis now likely to operate at slot cornerback for the Cowboys.
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs (toe) has been diagnosed with a bruised toe. The 24-year-old is still able to participate in walkthroughs and Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy says "We're just being smart with it. We don't have concern about it". It's good news for Dallas and Diggs after the two sides agreed to a sizable five-year, $97 million contract extension this past Tuesday. It doesn't sound like Diggs, the 2021 interceptions leader, should have an issue being ready for Week 1 action at this point.
The Dallas Cowboys and two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs are finalizing a five-year, $97 million contract extension on Tuesday, according to sources. Diggs already has 17 career interceptions and is only 24 years old. The younger brother of Buffalo Bills star wideout Stefon Diggs, Trevon has quickly developed into one of the best young ball-hawking cornerbacks in the league after just three NFL seasons. The former second-round pick finished last year with a career-high 59 tackles (50 solo), three interceptions, 14 passes defensed and a fumble recovery in 17 regular-season starts, which was a disappointment after he had a league-high 11 picks (two returned for touchdowns) in 2021. Diggs can't be counted on for double-digit interceptions again, but he makes Dallas' defense one of the best in football.
